For as long as I can remember, being a florist was one of those jobs that seemed almost too good to be real.

When I was young, a family friend told me about her days working as a florist in New York City. I remember thinking, That would be the dream. A life spent surrounded by flowers, making beautiful things every day. I loved the idea of it, but I never really believed it was something I could do myself. It stayed somewhere in the back of my mind, wonderful to imagine but always a little out of reach.

Nature, on the other hand, was always part of my life. I spent much of my childhood outside and carried that love with me into adulthood through hiking, gardening, travel, and farming. But for a long time, I never considered that the things I loved most could actually become the way I made my living.

Our Story

A Dream for Someday.

A woman with long dark hair smiles while arranging a large pink hydrangea flower in a black pot. The setting appears to be a flower shop or studio with various flowers, vases, and decorative items on the table and shelves around her.

Then someday became now.

Years later, after a period of profound loss, I found myself turning to nature and flowers in a completely different way. In early spring, I set out to hike 500 miles of the Appalachian Trail.

Over two months, I watched the forest transform around me, from bare trees and early buds to a landscape completely alive with green and wildflowers.

I started gathering little bouquets along the trail. Nothing elaborate, just whatever was blooming around me. But somewhere during those miles, something clicked. I realized I didn't have to wait until someday to build a life around the things I loved. So when I came home, I started working with flowers.

That decision led me into the world of flower farming, retail floristry, and floral design throughout Pittsburgh. Along the way, I discovered that my love of flowers is just as much about growing them as it is designing with them.

I still spend as much time as I can with my hands in the dirt, working alongside local growers, harvesting flowers, and learning more with every season. That connection to where flowers come from is an important part of Maison Fleur, which is why I prioritize locally grown flowers whenever the season allows. And as Maison Fleur grows, I hope to grow more and more of the flowers you’ll find in my bouquets myself.

Maison Fleur is the next chapter of that journey, a place where I can continue learning, growing, designing, and sharing my love of flowers with the community around me.‍
